Gárur for 5 Tape Loops and Field Recordings

This piece is about my relationship with my brother, who is a flutist. It’s a dialog between a flute composition I wrote at SIM residency and field recordings that I’ve collected in Iceland. The field recordings represent the Wuxing elements: wood, fire, soil, metal, and water. The flute composition was composed by myself and played by my brother. I received recordings from him and then re-recorded the piece onto five individual cassette tape loops.
The concept behind this work is about complementing and coexisting with larger natural forces and creating a dialog with the landscape.
